Mims Distributing Named a Top Green Business

RALEIGH, NC – Mims Distributing Company (http://www.mimsdist.com), a beer distributor that services a nine-county area in and around the Triangle, was named as one of the top three green businesses in the Triangle by the Raleigh Downtowner Magazine, a monthly print magazine dedicated to coverage of downtown Raleigh. Award winners are selected annually through readers’ choice polls.

Mims, which moved to a new facility in 2011, incorporates green practices into all levels of its business. The facility itself offers several climate-controlled storage and loading areas in order to ensure optimum quality control for all of Mims’ products, and the company incorporated energy-efficient high-performance insulation, cooling and lighting systems. In addition, Mims installed one of the largest private solar rooftop systems in Wake County, featuring a photovoltaic rooftop net metering system that allows the company to collect and use solar power onsite, and offset approximately 30 percent of the building’s energy needs, which is equivalent to 7,364 trees or 32,598 gallons of gasoline. They are minimizing water consumption through a smart storm water retention strategy that includes a bio-retention pond, the installation of low water use plumbing fixtures and the strategic landscaping of drought-tolerant plants and shrubs.

Mims’ new facility was previously a pharmaceutical distribution building. The company chose to renovate the building instead of building a new one as part of its mission to be as ecologically friendly as possible.

“It is an honor for Mims Distributing Company to be named one of the top green businesses in the Triangle,” said Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distributing Company. “Creating a green environment is important to us and essential for our future.”

– Mims Distributing Company’s new facility is located at 8605 Ebenezer Church Road, near I-540, I-40 and RDU International Airport in Raleigh. The new facility is approximately 140,000 square feet and occupies 13.5 acres, with 22 loading docks.
