Mad River Brewing Company to Release John Barleycorn Barley Wine

BLUE LAKE, Calif. — Mad River Brewing Company is pleased to announce the launch of our 26th Annual release of John Barleycorn Barley Wine. Each year as we celebrate the harvest and brew our John Barleycorn BarleyWine-Style Ale we adapt the recipe and change the label to fit the legacy behind John Barleycorn.

This harvest celebration Ale has won two Gold Medals from the Great American Beer Festival, one in theBarley Wine-Style Ale category and one in the Aged Beer category.

Jason Roberson designed the the 6-pack and the bottle label was designed by Julia Montgomery reflecting the spirit of John Barleycorn in the verse: “They’ve taken a weapon, long and sharp, and cut him by the knee; Then ties him fast upon a cart, like a rogue for forgerie.”

This Barley Wine pours a shimmering hue of rose gold with an enduring crown of foam. Savor the fresh aromas of ripe nectarine, light caramel and mild citrus notes in anticipation of sipping contemplation. A friendly palette of stone fruits and malty sweet caramel meanders smoothly across the taste buds, with a clean bitterness and a subtle lingering of spicy hops and citrus. The finish is decadent and richly satisfying. As this style gets better with age, after fermentation it was cellared for one year to give it a full rounded body and finish.

The ideal winter warmer, John Barleycorn Barley Wine is best served in a snifter in front of the fire throughout the Harvest Season. Ages extremely well with optimum maturity reached at one year and beyond.
