Kona Brewing Introduces Hanalei Island IPA

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii – In honor of the lush Hawaiian Island of Kauai, also known as the Garden Isle, and Hawaii’s beloved classic drink POG, a sweet blend of passionfruit, orange and guava juices, Kona Brewing Co. is proud to unveil its new Hanalei Island IPA with POG as the central flavor profile of this distinct island brew.

Hawaii locals and visitors to the Islands will be first to enjoy Hanalei Island IPA available on tap at the two Kona Brewpubs located in Hawaii Kai on Oahu and in Kailua-Kona on the Island of Hawaii. The beer is available exclusively for a limited-time and will progressively make its way to other restaurants and bars throughout the Hawaiian Islands prior to a U.S. mainland roll out in 2017.

This easy-drinking island-inspired IPA is Kona Brewing Co.’s homage to Kauai, “the most beautiful place on earth.” Passionfruit, orange and guava balance the subtle bitterness of aromatic Azacca and Galaxy hops to deliver a coppery laidback, session-style ale bright with tropical flavors and just 4.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

Sandi Shriver, head of Kona Brewing Co.’s brewery operations said that “it was a natural progression to develop a beer that incorporated fruits grown on the Islands to distinctively represent Hawaii. Hanalei Island IPA is an extremely drinkable beer that will appeal to those new to beer as well as the more seasoned connoisseurs.”

Hanalei Island IPA is named after the historic town of Hanalei and world-famous Hanalei Bay, a magnificent crescent shaped bay tucked against lush green mountains streaked with waterfalls. Hanalei Island IPA is the perfect beer to enjoy after a day of stand up paddling, surfing and kayaking to accompany casual summer fare such as seafood, tacos, pizza or pasta dishes.
