Idle Hands Craft Ales Releases Edgeworth Pilsner

Idle Hands Craft Ales

MALDEN, Mass. — Idle Hands Craft Ales will release Edgeworth, the first beer inspired by and brewed for the city of Malden, MA.

Edgeworth is a 4.8% ABV American hoppy pilsner designed to be an everyday, easy drinking, after work beer. Made with 100% American malt and hops, Edgeworth has a floral aroma with hints of citrus peel. Flavors of cracker, light lemon, and grapefruit lead to a clean, crisp finish.

Inspired by Malden

This latest beer from Idle Hands is named for the Malden neighborhood that the brewery calls home. Edgeworth became known as the business center of Malden in the early nineteenth century with a blue collar, working class neighborhood full of industrial and manufacturing businesses. The original Converse factory was located in Edgeworth and the neighborhood is the birthplace of the original Converse All Star basketball shoe, commonly known as Chuck Taylors. In recent years, Edgeworth has become one of the most popular and desirable neighborhoods to live in Greater Boston. Last year, Redfin named Edgeworth the sixth-hottest neighborhood in the country.

Idle Hands’ Edgeworth represents a combination of the neighborhood’s past and present, merging the blue collar pilsner style with the current popularity of American hops.

Brewed for Malden

To give back to the local neighborhood that inspired the beer, Idle Hands will donate $1 per pint and $1 per four pack (once cans are available) to the restoration efforts of the World War I Monument located in Devir Park in Edgeworth. The Monument honors the more than 2,000 Malden men and women who served in World War I. Veterans Day will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

“I couldn’t be happier that Malden’s first original beer will be brewed by Idle Hands Craft Ales,” said Malden Mayor Gary Christenson. “They have been a tremendous community partner which is evidenced by their generosity to help fund the restoration of the World War I Memorial which will pay tribute to all of Malden’s WWI Veterans.”

“We really appreciate Idle Hands’ interest in honoring our veterans,” said Kevin Jarvis, Veterans’ Services Officer, City of Malden. “The majority of Malden’s World War I veterans were from the Edgeworth neighborhood, so I think this beer is a fitting way to raise funds to refurbish our Monument to memorialize them.”

Edgeworth will be released tomorrow on draft in the Idle Hands taproom and available to take home in 32 ounce Freshies. Over the next few weeks, the brewery will be listening to community feedback on the beer, making minor tweaks to the recipe in preparation for the next batch, which will be released in 16 ounce cans on April 25, 2018.

“The Malden community, and specifically the Edgeworth neighborhood, have been really supportive of us since opening,” said Chris Tkach, founder of Idle Hands Craft Ales. “It only seemed fitting to name the first and original beer brewed for Malden after the neighborhood that has given us so much.”
