Golden Road Co-Founder to Star in New Viceland Series

Meg Gill is going Hollywood.

The 31-year-old co-founder of Los Angeles’ Golden Road Brewing, now a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, will star in an upcoming documentary series set to premiere on Vice Media’s cable television network, Viceland, in April.

Appropriately titled “Beerland,” the travel show meets homebrewing competition will document Gill’s adventures as she meets with hobby brewers and explores San Francisco, New York, Colorado, Hawaii and Sante Fe, New Mexico.

In addition to visiting local watering holes, Gill will select five home brewers to compete for a chance to have their recipe brewed, canned and distributed by Golden Road.

“Meg Gill has such a unique story in the world of beer, so it’s been amazing to travel the country with her at this unique time in America’s history, getting to know beer-loving Americans from all across the country, while drinking a lot of home brews along the way,” Tom Punch, Vice Media’s chief commercial and creative officer, said via a press release.

Recall that last October, Vice partnered with Blue Point Brewing, also owned by A-B InBev, to produce a five percent ABV gose-style beer.

“Beer has always been at the heart of the VICE brand; from the pub we own in London to launching our own beer last year,” Punch added via the release.

Gill co-founded Golden Road in 2011 with restaurateur and entrepreneur Tony Yanow and was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2014. The following year, she led the sale of the brewery, which had grown to become Los Angeles’ largest craft outfit, to A-B InBev for an undisclosed sum.

The Viceland network, known for its documentary-style programs aimed at the millennial demographic, operates under the creative direction of film director Spike Jonze.

In the U.S., Vice Media and A&E Networks jointly own the Viceland venture. A&E Networks, itself a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and Hearst Corporation, owns a 10 percent stake in Vice Media and is the majority shareholder in Viceland (Disney also owns a separate 10 percent stake in Vice Media). In Canada, Vice Media partnered with Rogers Media, which owns a majority of the Viceland network in that country.
