OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — Perfection stands another year: After the final undefeated pro football team of the 2018 season lost this past weekend, Funky Buddha is proud to announce the release of its annual salute greatness, Undefeated Saison.
Now in its fourth vintage, Undefeated Saison is a tribute to the 1972 Miami squad, still professional football’s only undefeated and unmatched team. It is packaged in Champagne-style 750ml bottles capped in silver foil, and will be sold on Sunday, November 11th at 11:30am at Funky Buddha Brewery. Bottles cost $14 each with a limit of six per person.
Barrel-aged Undefeated Saison is a beer that drinks like Champagne. Our Saison – French for “season” – is blended with real Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape must and bottle conditioned with Champagne yeasts to achieve a very high carbonation level reminiscent of sparkling wine. This year’s vintage also spent 10 months inside Chardonnay barrels, imparting characteristics of lemon peel, green grapes, vanilla, and oak. The result is a bubbly brew fit for celebration — as in toasting the still unmatched reign of our 1972 champs.
“There’s long been a South Florida urban legend that after the last undefeated pro football team loses each year, members of the 1972 ‘Fins all raise a glass of Champagne in unison,” says Ryan Sentz, co-owner and head brewer at Funky Buddha Brewery. “We’re proud to say over the years some key members of the ’72 team have had a chance to check out Undefeated Saison, which for a lifelong fan like me is incredible.”
Less than 1,500 bottles of this unique brew have been produced, and they can only be purchased at Funky Buddha Brewery starting on November 11th, and at select retailers later this month. Customers will also be able to check out how Undefeated Saison has aged over the years as the tap room will be serving vertical flights of the 2016, 2017, and 2018 vintages side-by-side (while supplies last). As always, Funky Buddha co-founders Ryan and KC Sentz have pledged that any member of the 1972 undefeated team in attendance will receive a complimentary bottle of Undefeated Saison.
