Bear Republic Wins Good Food Award for Tartare

CLOVERDALE, Calif. — Bear Republic Brewing Company brought home a medal in the Beer Category at the 2013 Good Food Awards, a celebration honoring people who make food that is delicious, respectful of the environment, and connected to communities and cultural traditions.

Winners in nine categories were announced January 18th at the Good Food Awards Ceremony held at the iconic San Francisco Ferry Building. The following day, eighty of this year’s Good Food Award winners reassembled for the Good Food Awards Marketplace, where several thousand visitors attended for the opportunity to taste and buy the winning products.

Good Food Awards Director Sarah Weiner stated, “There is no doubt that this is the most impressive group of Good Food Award winners to date, and it is a true reflection of what is happening around the country.”

Tartare was awarded a medal in the Adventurous, Barreled, Big, Bawdy, & Belgian beer category. Tartare, a dry and tart Berliner-style wheat beer spontaneously fermented in a 2500 gallon oak vessel, is Bear Republic’s interpretation of the classic sour beer style dubbed as “The Champagne of the North.”

The 2013 Good Food Awards winners were chosen from among 1,366 entries from 49 states in 9 different categories and subcategories.
