Backward Flag Brewing to Can Forward Assault Series Beers

FORKED RIVER, N.J. — On Monday, June 18th Backward Flag Brewing will can their beer for the first time for a special can release scheduled for July 6th

The Forward Assault series is a project with the purpose of raising awareness of the many amazing organizations that exist with the mission to help Veterans move forward. Backward Flag works with these groups and individuals in designing a unique recipe that is symbolic of their organization or cause. A portion of all proceeds from the several Forward Assault releases will be donated to the respective charities chosen by the collaborative partners.

The first can in the series is Something’s Missing, a unique IPA featuring 0 IBUs. Something’s Missing was inspired by and brewed in collaboration with Rory Hamill. Rory, who lost his leg while serving as a Marine in Afghanistan, is an activist for veteran causes. Rory has chosen the We Defy Foundation as the benefiting charity of this release. Through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and fitness training the We Defy Foundation provides combat veterans suffering from life-disabling injuries and/or PTSD a long-term means to overcome their challenges.

“There’s many challenges to overcome once you leave the theatre of combat” stated Hamill. “From our formative years in the Marine Corps, we are taught “violence of action”; Kill or be killed. In combat, this is a necessity. Here back home, it’s not applicable to most professions or lifestyles. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the perfect outlet for the displaced warrior. It teaches discipline, endurance, and humility. The same as combat. Because of the We Defy Foundation, I am provided that opportunity once again, to be a warrior, to deal with my physical and mental trauma in a healthy and beneficial way.”

Something’s Missing will be available in 4 packs of 16oz cans through retailers and at Backward Flag Brewing on July 6th.
