Author Mead Launches Draft Mead

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Author Mead Company has re-envisioned traditional mead to create a crisp, carbonated and fully-balanced style of mead known as Draft Mead. On a mission to change the game in craft brewing, the Author team is doing just that as it launches this revolutionary product in bottle shops, tap houses and speciality grocers. Drawing upon award-winning experience in the craft beer industry, this new style of mead is universally appealing, naturally gluten-free and competes alongside the best craft beers and ciders available today.

New Author Draft Meadery Uses Innovative Brewing Process

Author Mead Co.’s brewing process takes time-tested craft brewing techniques and applies them, from start to finish, to making mead; in doing so they have established the first Draft Meadery in the country that operates entirely on brewing equipment. While traditional mead begins and ends with winemaking principles, Author Mead Co. pioneered a new method of brewing mead that results in a groundbreaking beverage that is carbonated, crisp and balanced.

Hyper-local Ingredients from Cascade Hops + Raw Honey to Marionberries

Critical to this process is seasonal fruit, Cascade hops and other premium ingredients harvested from farmers in the Pacific Northwest. For its main ingredient, Author Mead Co. exclusively uses local, raw, unfiltered honey from the Willamette Valley and Columbia Basin. This commitment to local yields the highest quality Draft Mead and supports sustainable agriculture throughout the region.

Author Draft Mead contains 6.5% ABV and will debut on tap, and in 12-ounce cans, at select bottle shops and retailers in Oregon and SW Washington. The current style profiles include:

  • Semi-Sweet is the flagship style boasting a golden color and crisp character with raw, local, unfiltered wildflower honey.
  • India Pale Mead (IPM) isa game-changing IPM with a bright and hoppy flavor profile produced from a unique blend that features Citra hops.
  • Marionberry leverages the uniqueness of Oregon marionberries for a bold, full-bodied flavor with a smooth finish.
  • Raspberry delivers a sweet and tart balance with vibrant fruit and honey aromas that perfectly complement one another.

“We made it our mission to author a new way of craft brewing mead and deliver an innovative product that elevates Draft Mead within the ranks of the craft beverage industry,” said Author Mead Co. head brewer Mike Wright. “Craft beer lovers will enjoy Author Draft Mead for its balanced flavor, crisp mouthfeel and styles reminiscent of their favorite brew. And cider lovers will appreciate that it’s naturally gluten-free, with a perfect bite and yet not overly sweet.”
