Dark Horse Brewing Company

At a time when brewers are exploring spirits and ready-to-drink offerings as avenues for incremental revenue, Michigan-based spirits producer Benchmark Beverage Company is doing something similar: bolting on beer brands to expand its portfolio.

The former owner of Marshall, Michigan-based Dark Horse has pleaded guilty to one count of conducting a criminal enterprise and has been ordered to make full restitution to former employees in order to avoid a 20-year prison sentence, Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel announced.

About three weeks after Adam Lambert took over as president of the Michigan Brewers Union — the roll up of Dark Horse Brewing and Roak Brewing — the COVID-19 pandemic shut down on-premise sales across the U.S.
