Catawba Brewing releases exclusive Blueberry Hefeweizen cask beer with NC-grown blueberries.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., (Sept. 5, 2019) – Catawba Brewing Co. will release a Small Batch Blueberry Hefeweizen (5.5 percent ABV), which was conditioned on five gallons of North Carolina-grown blueberries, in a special firkin cask. The exclusive cask version of this delicious German-style wheat ale will be tapped at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 in the Charlotte tasting room. The blueberries were sourced by Freshlist.

“The local, fresh blueberries are what really delight the taste buds for this beer,” comments Mary Mayo, Creative Director of Catawba Brewing. “Since Catawba opened in Charlotte, we’ve developed relationships with the local farming community to source ingredients – including fruits, nuts, and grain products – for a variety of beers we brew in Charlotte. As members of the Piedmont Culinary Guild, we’ve also partnered with many local chefs, farms, and nonprofits in the Charlotte community to raise funds and awareness of local flavors. That’s because we feel it’s so important to support our local community and local producers as much as possible.”

Freshlist serves over 200 chefs, brewers, bakers, and other culinary artisans in the Charlotte region, helping them source local ingredients from their network of more than 150 small and midsize farms.

This specialty cask version is extremely limited, so the brewery encourages customers to arrive early for the Sept. 7 tapping. The beer will serve as an advance preview for the latest release in Catawba’s Passport Program, slated for draft-only release in all tasting rooms on Thursday, Sept. 12.

About Catawba Brewing Company:

Catawba Brewing Co. has been an industry leader in Western North Carolina’s craft beer scene for two decades. The company was founded in 1999 by WNC natives, the Pyatt family, who were inspired by their weekend homebrew hobby. From humble beginnings, the business has grown exponentially to become a major craft beer supplier across five states. Catawba now operates breweries and tasting rooms in three NC cities – Morganton, Asheville, and Charlotte – embracing a hybrid wholesale/retail strategy. With the 2018 acquisition of Palmetto Brewing Co. in Charleston, SC, the Pyatt family hobby has spawned one of the Southeast’s largest and most diverse craft brewing entities.
