Calicraft Acquires Heretic Brewery and Distillery

Calicraft has acquired the assets of Heretic Brewery and Distillery in Fairfield, California. Finance details of the transaction, which closed on August 5, were not disclosed.

Walnut Creek, California-based Calicraft called the deal for Heretic “an important milestone” for the company, with the addition of a successful taproom operation, an expanded footprint, a complementary portfolio and added production capacity.

The 14-year-old Heretic brand will continue on, as well as its taproom.

Calicraft founder and CEO Blaine Landberg said in the announcement: “We are thrilled to welcome Heretic Brewery and Distillery into the Calicraft family. This acquisition aligns with our visions to expand our taprooms and provide an exceptional craft beer experience to our customers. Heretic’s dedication to quality and innovation mirrors our own, and we look forward to brewing great beer together.”

In 2023, Calicraft produced an estimated 20,147 barrels of beer (-2% year-over-year), according to the Brewers Association’s New Brewer magazine. Production numbers for Heretic were not reported.

Calicraft, founded in 2012, operates a taproom and beer garden in Walnut Creek, with new locations on the way in downtown Walnut Creek and Davis.
