While nearby neighbors Left Hand Brewing were busy “wowing” the Great American Beer Festival crowds with their new Nitro bottle, Oskar Blues Brewery quietly announced they would be rolling out some new packaging of their own.
The Longmont-based craft brewery will soon be packaging their silver-medal winning Deviant Dale’s IPA in a shiny new 16 oz. can.
The company is awaiting arrival of a new canning system, which will allow them to fill the new package and also increase the amount of 12 oz. cans they can fill per minute.
Just down the road in Fort Collins, New Belgium – The industry’s third largest craft brewer – is also currently building out new facilities to accommodate a brand new canning line, which will also allow them to fill in the 16 oz. package. Sierra Nevada, the second-largest craft brewer is also planning to release their Torpedo Extra IPA in 16 oz. cans.
According to craftcans.com, there are currently 135 breweries that can at least some of their beers, 16 of which are in Colorado. Oskar Blues Founder Dale Katechis discussed the new cans, his 2011 growth and plans for 2012 in a video interview with us.
