Victory Medals at GABF

Victory BrewingDOWNINGTOWN, PA Victory Brewing Company (Victory) was recently awarded a top honor for its beloved Golden Monkey at the 28th Great American Beer Festival (GABF), the largest commercial beer competition in the world. Golden Monkey bested 58 entries in the Belgian-Style Tripel category from across the United States.

Presented by the Brewers Association, the Great American Beer Festival is the largest commercial beer competition in the world representing the upper echelon of brewing excellence. Now in its 28th year, the 2014 competition surpassed all previous participation records with 5,507 competition entries (a 16 percent increase over 2013) from 1,309 US breweries. To accomplish this, 222 beer experts from 10 countries worked to award gold, silver and bronze medals in 90 beer categories covering 145 different beer styles.

The Great American Beer Festival recognition finds the Golden Monkey brand on a significant ascent in which it became Victory’s top selling brand earlier this year, amongst a strong portfolio of growing brands.

Available year round and in both 12 oz. and 750 ml bottles, Golden Monkey was created in 1997 making it one of the first fundamentally anchoring brands for Victory. The result of Bill Covaleski and Ron Barchet’s original love and affinity for Belgian style ales, it incorporates the richness of imported malts and Belgian yeast, herbal whole flower hops and a touch of spicy coriander. Herbal fruity notes make Golden Monkey a strong, sensual spicy kick with an ABV of 9.5%.

Available at craft beer bars, bottle shops, beer distributors and major gourmet grocery stores including Whole Foods and Wegmans, throughout Victory’s 35 state distribution footprint. Golden Monkey’s suggested retail price for a six-pack is approximately $9.99 and 750 ml bottle is $6.99, but varies upon location. Use Victory’s Beerfinder to discover a nearby location, or download the free Victory Mobile app for Android or iPhone.

“Our magical, mystical Golden Monkey has delighted fans for nearly 18 years, enriching their lives with flavorful memories and experiences,” said Victory’s President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski. “To see it persuade professional judges in the cold light of national competition is a real testament to its charming character.”
