Temperance Beer Company to Release First Bottled Offering

Evanston, IL — Temperance Beer Company, Evanston’s original brewery, will release its first bottled beer on Saturday, January 31, at noon. After canning three beers beginning last year, including the award-winning Gatecrasher English-Style IPA, Temperance is bottling an extremely limited number of twenty-two-ounce bottles of Barrel-Aged Might Meets Right Imperial Stout.

Since March 2014, the big brew (10.9% alc/vol) has been aging in High West Distillery white oak barrels that previously held either High West’s 36th Vote Barreled Manhattan or its Barreled Boulevardier cocktails. The result is a new take on barrel-aged Imperial Stouts. (The Boulevardier Might Meets Right was awarded a bronze medal in the Experimental category at the Festival of Barrel Aged Beer in November 2014.)

To commemorate this milestone, Temperance is throwing a bottle release celebration. Starting at noon on January 31, bottles of the Manhattan and Boulevardier Barrel-Aged Might Meets Right will be available for sale in the Tap Room, located at 2000 Dempster Street in Evanston, IL. (Look for the small light blue sign on the south side of the street.)

Windy City Patty Wagon, a Chicago food truck that cooks up fresh, delicious burgers, will be on hand starting at noon to serve customers while they wait to buy their bottles. Later in the evening, Chicago’s DJ TGHTNTRL will be spinning beats starting at 7pm.

Temperance is thrilled about the new addition to its repertoire. Only 150 Boulevardier bottles ($25 each) will be released and they are limited to one per person. Up to three Manhattan bottles ($20 each) will be allowed per customer. Only cash will be accepted. A small number of local retailers will sell the Manhattan bottles, but the Boulevardier is only available at Temperance.

For customers interested in tasting the new releases before buying the bottles, Manhattan Might Meets Right will be on draft in the Tap Room the night before (Friday, 1/30) the release party starting at 5 pm. Boulevardier Might Meets Right will be tapped during the release party at noon.

Temperance is excited to be able to send home these unique offerings with loyal customers and share this project with the community. To see a city develop from Prohibition’s birthplace to a hotbed for innovative food, spirits, and beer is a dream come true for founder and Evanston native Josh Gilbert. “It’s inspiring to witness and be part of Evanston’s transformation from a dry place to a city bursting with creativity and fun.”
