ABOUT CUCINA URBANA: Culinary delights meet aesthetic bliss at Southern California’s CUCINA urbana, where dining and design form the ultimate union. The first of its kind in San Diego, the California-inspired Italian kitchen and wine shop opened doors in the heart of Bankers Hill in 2009. Conceptualized by restaurant visionary and owner Tracy Borkum, the venue boasts comfort and familiarity, welcoming diners to a country farmhouse with all the whimsy of a contemporary art installation. The carefully curated emporium is not only a rustic-inclined decorator’s dream, it’s an incubator and platform for California designers, featuring repurposed and vintage design finds sourced exclusively from local artisans. Executive chef Joe Magnanelli takes the reigns in the kitchen with contemporary California-inspired Italian cuisine prepared with locally sourced, organic and sustainable products. The inventive menu is comprised of vasi, antipasti, insalate, pizza, pasta, piatti and dolce. Executive pastry chef Jack Fisher brings over two decades of established pedigree and fine dining experience to the kitchen with an arsenal of Italian-inspired confections. The bar menu is comprised of specialty cocktails, local and Italian artisan beers, as well as house-infused liquors such as vodka, rum and grappa. Offering 140 competitively priced wines for sale in their expansive wine shop; guests can enjoy varietals during service or to-go.
