Brewery Ommegang and Game of Thrones Start Facebook Sweepstakes

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — For some, it is “Slainté” to Sansa. Other feel it’s “Kampai” to Cersei. And there is a vocal contingent insistent upon saying “Na zdorovje” to Khal Drogo.

Brewery Ommegang’s season-long Facebook sweepstakes, part of its ongoing cross-promotion with HBO and the hit drama Game of Thrones, invites viewers to submit their recommendation after each episode on which character deserves a toast of Iron Throne Blonde Ale. Weekly winners will be awarded a copy of “Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Collector’s Edition” and one grand prize winner will win a trip to the brewery in Cooperstown NY.

Iron Throne Blonde Ale was created in honor of the show of course,” said Bill Wetmore, Director of Marketing for Brewery Ommegang, “and it’s a universal sign of good luck and approval to raise a glass of beer to someone. It seemed a highly appropriate and fun way to drive water — strike that — beer-cooler chatter would be an online call for character honorifics. With so much passion surrounding the show, we expect the entries may be as contentious as the quest for the Iron Throne itself.”

To enter, participants can visit Ommegang on Facebook, select the ‘Seize the Iron Throne’ tab, and leave a caption for the character that most deserves a toast of Iron Throne. The weekly contest opens at the start of each new episode. Winners are selected at random the following Friday. Official rules are available on the contest tab. The sweepstakes is also being promoted through social outreach on Twitter and Instagram using #SeizeTheIronThrone.

Winners will receive a copy of “Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: The Collector’s Edition.” This limited release collector’s edition includes an illustrated book on the making of the show, scrolled maps, and an artist’s portfolio featuring never-before-seen storyboards, all housed in a gold-stamped case. The book is autographed by author and show screenwriter Bryan Cogman and retails for approximately $150.

Iron Throne Blonde Ale is the first in a series of Game of Thrones-inspired beers — a joint partnership between HBO and Brewery Ommegang. A second Game of Thrones-inspired beer is due out later this year and two new beers are planned for each subsequent season of the show.
