SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., SEPT. 12, 2025 — Today, East Brother Beer Company, the Richmond-based brewery known for brewing classic beer styles, announced the grand opening of its first San Francisco taproom, called “The Rec Room.” Located in the heart of the city at the Metreon, The Rec Room is a welcoming space for cold beer and warm connections.

“We created the Rec Room to be more than just a place to grab a pint," said Rob Lightner, co-founder of East Brother Beer Co. "It’s a place for coworkers to enjoy happy hour or for friends and family to gather on the weekend, and it is a reflection of our commitment to providing spaces for the community to come together. We’re super excited to contribute to the ongoing revitalization of downtown San Francisco.”

The Rec Room is East Brother Beer Co.’s first taproom location outside its East Bay flagship. For nearly 10 years, East Brother Beer Co. has been proudly brewing in Richmond, and this expansion to San Francisco signifies the brewery’s long-term investment in the greater Bay Area.

“Our goal has always been crafting high-quality, no-frills beer that’s done right every time,” said Lightner. “While the East Bay will always be our home, we can’t wait to bring that same vision and craftsmanship to the City.”

The 3,500-square-foot space features indoor (2,200 sq ft) and outdoor (1,300 sq ft) seating, purposefully designed to encourage connections and the sharing of meaningful moments over great beer. The celebrated brewery is recognized for its timeless beer styles, which are made with intentionality and care. The Rec Room will have 15 taps pouring East Brother Beer Co. favorites such as the Bo Pils and Red Lager, a selection of IPAs, and a rotation of seasonal brews like the Belgian Tripel, Pre-Pro Lager, and FestBier throughout the year. The Rec Room will also feature games like pool and darts, inviting guests to enjoy fun, interactive activities, bringing a dynamic gathering place to San Francisco’s vibrant Yerba Buena neighborhood.

The City of San Francisco offered a warm welcome to the East Brother Rec Room. Their Office of Small Business provided technical services and the Office of Economic & Workforce Development helped connect the taproom with local employees.

"East Brother Beer Co. is certain to be a hit with conventioneers, tourists and residents," said Scott Rowitz, executive director of the community benefit district Yerba Buena Partnership. "Their taproom offers phenomenal beer with a scenic backdrop of Yerba Buena Gardens and the City skyline, just steps from museums, hotels and Moscone Center. For Yerba Buena, it provides a new attraction to the neighborhood's expansive arts and entertainment scene."

A public grand opening event will be announced soon. Friends, family, and the general public are encouraged to attend and celebrate this new chapter over a few pints of cold beer.
