MCKINLEYVILLE, CA – When two of the McKinleyville Community Skatepark Organization’s (MCSO) board members approached Six Rivers Brewery co-owners, Meredith Maier and Talia Nachshon, about creating a beer to help raise funds for the future skate park, the women enthusiastically agreed.
Last Halloween, Six Rivers Brewery unveiled Frontside Ale and donated the entire night’s proceeds of the brew’s sales to MCSO (a non-profit organization). The brewery continued to gather ten percent from each sale of Frontside Ale for MCSO. Recently, they presented MCSO with a check for $2,739, their six month fundraising total.
“The MCSO would like to thank Six Rivers Brewery for creating Frontside Ale which has not only provided great financial support for McKinleyville Skatepark, but has demonstrated the value this community places on healthy forms of youth recreation and economic development. MCSO believes it takes a community to raise a child,” said MCSO Board Member, Eric Johnson.
The 18,000 square foot McKinleyville Community Skate Park is to be located at Pierson Park in McKinleyville. To date, MCSO has completed construction plans developed by one of the world’s top skate park design and building companies. “McKinleyville needs more options for fun outdoor activities for our youth. The skate park will definitely fill that need. Since Talia has young children and so do many of our customers, we are excited to support the skate park,” said Maier.
Six Rivers Brewery also sponsors the beer garden during Pony Express Days at McKinleyville’s Pierson Park. The beer tasting event is June 4 and will raise funds equally for the skate park and the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce. MCSO will also be hosting a skate event fundraiser that day.
“This is the first year we will be selling pints in addition to tastes at Pony Express Days. All five of our local breweries donate their beer for the cause, as do out-of-area breweries such as Kona Brewing Company. Come raise a glass for a great cause,” said Maier.
