STILLWATER, MN — Lift Bridge Brewing Company today (International Women’s Day) announced that its next batch release will be an ale brewed by a team of all women, in celebration of Women’s History Month. The batch brew is being led by the brewery’s lab technician and quality control expert, Daniella Majerus.
Women at Lift Bridge Brewery joined forces to create the Alewive’s Sparkling Golden Ale, made with Hibiscus and Pomegranate. The beer – a fruity, sweet and tart ale with a spicy characteristic from Belgian yeast – honors the women pioneers who helped shape the history of brewing as we know it today. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this batch will go to the Minnesota Women’s Consortium and the Pink Boots Society, which aims to help women in the beer industry advance their careers through education.
“While the typical image of a bearded man in a flannel shirt is still commonplace in today’s craft beer industry, women have historically represented many of the progressive pioneers behind the micro-brewing process, and hold a significant stake in the future of the industry, as well,” said Majerus, who began her brewing career in her home country of Peru before coming to Minnesota to perfect her craft. “It’s fun for me to be able to lead the production of something we as women in the brewing industry can truly call our own.”
One of the other Lift Bridge employees involved in this project is taproom manager, Jennifer Proesel. She has been a longstanding member of several area home-brewing clubs and women’s brewing clubs, and organizes the annual ‘Big Brew’ home-brewing festival in May. Jen was also the winner of the 2017 Growler Magazine ‘Best Beertender’ award.
“I am honored to work with other passionate women in our industry to create a beer than honors the legacy of women in brewing.” said Proesel. “Even though the name and ingredients of Alewive’s might sound a bit ‘girly’, this beer packs a punch with 7.5 percent ABV and a flavor that won’t go unnoticed.”
The new brew will be released on a limited basis in the Twin Cities following a launch party on April 14, which will feature other women-owned businesses and vendors to join in celebration of the importance of women’s history in the brewing industry.
