Kona to Host Pre-Hallowen Show

Kailua-Kona, Big Island of HawaiiKona Brewing has announced that on October 25, 2014, multicultural 7 piece band Ozomatli will return to rock the Brewhouse Oasis for a pre-Halloween bash. Tucked between the buildings of Kona Brewing Company’s Brewery Block at 74-5612 Pawai Place, the Brewhouse Oasis is a perfectly intimate setting to enjoy great bands, fresh island brews, and locally sourced salads and pizzas by Kona Brewing Company. General admission tickets are $39 and are available through Kona Brewing Company’s website.

Highly acclaimed Ozomatli melds numerous music cultures including funk, reggae, rap, cumbia, merengue, salsa, and hip-hop, among others in its albums and energetic live performances. As testament to the band’s versatility, the band’s new album A Place in the Sun combines heavy garage rock and hip-hop with Pérez Prado mambo. It features collaborations with Eurythmics’ guitarist Dave Stewart and Xandy Barry of Wax Ltd.

Formed in Los Angeles in the mid 1990’s, Ozomatli toured with Carlos Santana in 1998. Only three years later, the band’s album Embrace the Chaos won a Grammy for “Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album” in 2001. In 2004, Ozomatli won again in the same category for their album Street Signs, which also won the Latin Grammy for “Mejor Album de Musica Alternativa” in 2005.

Gates open at 6pm for the October 25 show, with Hawaiian slack key guitarist L.T. Smooth opening the show at 6:30pm. As well as energetic live music, the evening will feature a free photo booth and a Halloween costume contest with a $1,000.00 cash grand prize.

“Shows at Kona Brewing Company are one of a kind because we can provide freshly brewed beer in a tropical setting that really honors each band that comes through Kona,” said Hawaii Restaurant and Retail Managing Director Mattson Davis. “Bands love our laid back vibe and like with Ozomatli, we’ve had lots of repeat performances. It’s a part of life for us here in Kona—talking story with friends and family, seeing live music. The energy that Ozomatli and LT Smooth brings will really rock the house.”

As well as online, tickets may also be bought in person at Soundwave Music and Kona Brewing Company’s Brew Pub at the Retail and Growler Shack.
