ATLANTA (July 21, 2014) — Publik Draft House (P.D.H.) proudly announces Taylor Bareford as the winner of the inaugural Great Southern Beer Competition (www.
The panel of judges met on June 20th to taste the submitted brews, ranging from pilsners to stouts to specialty brews. Judges included Eddie Johnson of P.D.H., Greg Bowman of CNN, Ale Sharpton, local beer expert, Jonathan Baker of Monday Night Brewing, and Osayi Endolyn, beer expert with Atlanta Magazine. Judges blind-tasted each beer, rating each submission in categories including aroma, appearance, flavor, mouthfeel and overall impression.
P.D.H. awarded Bareford and his Chocolate Chili Stout with a suite of grand prizes, including $1,000, a feature inAtlanta Magazine and distribution at P.D.H. Additional prize packs were also awarded to runner up, Tim Wallen, for his Wild Zero homebrew and 3rd place winner, Adam Godfrey, for his Rye Stout Beer.
“As a local Atlanta gastropub, it’s important to us to support the craft beer movement and the homebrewing community,” says Eddie Johnson, co-owner of P.D.H. “We are excited to add the Chocolate Chili Stout to our menu of craft beers that we offer and to help Taylor Bareford and other homebrewers in the area grow their presence in the industry.”
Following the successful passing of the local ordinance in accordance with the Georgia General Assembly House Bill 99, P.D.H held the Great Southern Craft Beer Competition after hearing from Atlantans and craft beer enthusiasts that there was a need for this type of event. Eddie Johnson continues, “We are thrilled that this event came to fruition and that we received more than 40 submissions from local homebrewers. There is a great deal of talent in our city and we’re glad we can help get their names on the maps.”
