Ina few short years, Max has grown Grand Teton Brewing’s Barrel-Aging Program from the initial twelve casks to two hundred casks that are now routinely producing award winning barrel-aged beers. His insatiable thirst to learn more about the science and art of producing great beers led Max to Siebel Institute ofTechnology in early 2016. Returning to the brewery in Spring 2016, Max was appointed Cellar Master. He has continued to make significant contributions to both the Cellar operations and Barrel-Aging Program at Grand Teton Brewing.

As Brewmaster, Max follows his mentor, Rob Mullin, who elected to relocate from eastern Idaho toThree Notch’d Brewing Company in Charlottesville, Virginia after fifteen years as Grand Teton Brewing’s Brewmaster. Mullin leaves behind the legacy of several popular award winning Grand Teton Brewing beers, including Black Cauldron Imperial Stout, Bitch Creek American Brown Ale, and208 Session Ale.

“I am very excited to take over as Brewmaster at Grand Teton Brewing. While my career is very young, it all started here and I think that is evident when you walk around the brewery- ranging from our pilot program all the way to our wood cellar. I wish Rob all the best in his new endeavor and cannot thank him enough for the years of mentorship and I look onward to what is to come later in our careers. I have big shoes to fill, literally and figuratively; Rob’s feet are way bigger than mine. “ – Max Shafer, Grand Teton Brewing Brewmaster
