Bend, Ore. — Each year, Deschutes Brewery dedicates $1 per barrel sold to nonprofits throughout its distribution area as part of its commitment to building a healthier society. In 2014, this came to more than $285,000 going to organizations that provide services for the environment, children, families, animals, education and those supporting arts and cultural activities. In addition, the brewery donated an extra $37,000 in beer to support charitable events throughout the year.

“In 2014, our community involvement program reached more deserving nonprofits than ever before,” said Erin Rankin, Donations Coordinator. “This year we are looking forward to increasing our impact not only with our growing funds for giving, but also the enhanced partnerships we are creating to help these organizations gain exposure in their communities.”

In the coming year, Deschutes Brewery will draw from a giving fund of $335,000; approximately $1 per barrel sold in 2014. In addition, the brewery has two brand-new programs for charitable giving that launch in the New Year, encouraging participation from its fans and helping give charitable organizations greater exposure:

  •  Community Pints. Both the Bend and Portland pubs will donate $1 per pint sold every Tuesday of the month to a selected charity. In the Bend tasting room, $2 per growler fill on Tuesdays will go to the same selected charity. Check the company website for details on monthly charities at www.deschutesbrewery.com/events.
  •  Street Pub.  Deschutes will be traveling to seven select cities, bringing a block party experience to communities outside of O regon. There will be a charitable match fund set up for local nonprofits at each of these events; look for more details and a complete schedule coming soon.

Deschutes Brewery donated to more than 500 nonprofits in 2014! Larger contributions included support of organizations like the Freshwater Trust; Deschutes River Conservancy; Deschutes Children’s Foundation; J Bar J Youth Services; High Desert Museum; Bend Area Habitat for Humanity and many others. Although the bulk of the funds donated stayed in Oregon, the brewery also supported nonprofits like Milwaukee Riverkeeper and West Michigan Environmental Action Council in expansion states, as well as, organizations such as Friends of the Los Angeles River and San Diego Coastkeeper in existing markets.

A cross-departmental team of twelve passionate individuals helps to guide community giving for the company, carefully evaluating where donations can have the most impact. Employees are also encouraged to participate in volunteer opportunities each quarter.
