AleSmith Brewing Introduces Tony Gwynn Junior’s IPA

SAN DIEGO — Tony Gwynn Jr. once again follows in his father’s footsteps, this time by crafting his very own Session IPA with award-winning AleSmith Brewing Company. Aptly named “Tony Gwynn Junior’s IPA”, this lower alcohol version of an India Pale Ale will be available on draft mid-April, in time for the beginning of baseball season.

Like their collaboration with baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn on the now popular .394 Pale Ale, the AleSmith Brewing team worked closely with his son, Tony Gwynn Jr. on a beer that catered to his specific tastes. As a big fan of the prominent hop characteristics found in traditional IPAs, the former Major League Baseball star and current radio and television broadcaster wanted a beer that someone could drink several of in a session. The result is a 4.3% ABV, 40 IBU beer that is extremely drinkable, yet intensely flavorful with pungent notes of citrus, tropical fruit, melon and berry, all balanced by light caramel flavors and just the right amount of bitterness, leaving you reaching for another.

“AleSmith and myself are very proud to bring you Tony Gwynn Junior’s IPA,” said Tony Gwynn Jr. “We worked on this beer for over a year and hopefully people will enjoy it as much as they enjoy the .394 that my dad helped create.”

“I couldn’t help but notice that while working with Tony Gwynn in 2014 to create .394, that his son Tony Jr. seemed quite interested in the process,” said Peter Zien, AleSmith Owner. “In the subsequent years, Tony Jr. has been a frequent visitor to AleSmith and I’m happy to report that he has officially caught the brewing bug. We have a wonderful relationship with the Gwynn family, so I’m glad we had the opportunity to create another delicious beer with Tony Jr.”

Look for Tony Gwynn Junior’s IPA on draft at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, and in southern California restaurants and bars beginning mid-April.
