A pair of small Michigan beer companies are set to merge in an effort to better compete with larger brewing operations. Royal Oak-based Roak Brewing Co. announced this week that it is in the process of acquiring Traverse City’s Right Brain Brewery. Speaking to Brewbound, Roak Brewing co-owner and CEO John Leone said the deal is expected to close in the next 60 to 90 days, pending approval from the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. He declined to share specific financial terms of the deal, noting that some details of the transaction are still finalized.

This November, Right Brain Brewery will debut their 2016 CEO Stout Boardroom Series brews. The series is based on Right Brain’s flagship brand CEO Stout, which is a light bodied, sessionable stout brewed with real coffee from Roaster Jack’s (Traverse City). This year’s line-up will include Bourbon Barrel-Aged CEO, Imperial CEO, Peanut Butter CEO, and Pumpkin Spice CEO, all brewed with real natural ingredients made in house, or locally sourced.
As the weather gets colder and some craft beer drinkers gravitate towards darker beers, Right Brain Brewery is happy to greet them with Naughty Girl Mint Stout six-packs. Naughty Girl Stout, previously available only in 22 oz bottles and on draft, takes inspiration from a well-known mint chocolate cookie, delivering complex chocolate notes with a cooling minty finish.
This summer, Right Brain Brewery will expand its packaged product offerings and launch many of its popular brands in 12 oz bottle six-packs. Previously, Right Brain only offered its products in 16 oz cans, 22 oz bottles, and on draft. The first two brands to hit shelves are Cake Walk vanilla cream ale and Blue Magic lavender ale, and they are scheduled to be available in retail stores in late June.
Right Brain Brewery’s nationally recognized Mangalitsa Pig Porter is ready to make a triumphant return Saturday, April 16th, at the annual Pig Porter Release Party. Winner of the 2011 gold medal for “Best Experimental Beer” at the Great American Beer Festival, the Pig Porter shined a spotlight on Right Brain Brewery, and proved craft beer is much more than hops and beards.
