Anheuser-Busch InBev this week announced changes to a U.S. division it calls “The High End,” eliminating the “CEO of Craft” position previously held by longtime executive Andy Goeler. Goeler, who had been focused on growing A-B’s involvement in the craft category, will transition into an expanded vice president of marketing role, working directly with both the company’s acquired craft breweries as well as brands like Stella Artois and Shock Top.

Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced it would purchase Arizona’s largest craft brewery, Four Peaks Brewing. Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed and the deal is expected to close during the first quarter of 2016. First Beverage Group acted as the financial advisor to Four Peaks and Spencer Fane provided legal counsel.
Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced a number of changes to its commercial leadership roster, most notably that it would replace current vice president of U.S. sales, David Almeida. In separate notes sent to both employees and wholesalers, Zone North America president João Castro Neves said Almeida, who had served as the company’s VP of U.S. sales since 2011, would be named to a “global special project” and report directly to CEO Carlos Brito.
Remember the class action lawsuit from earlier this year that alleged MillerCoors was deceptively brewing and marketing its Blue Moon Brewing line of craft products? Well, on Wednesday, a California judge all but dismissed the suit, saying that the company’s use of the Blue Moon Brewing Company name on its label “shielded it from liability under California’s consumer protection laws under safe harbor doctrine,” according to Law360.
Anheuser-Busch is providing 2,156 cases of emergency drinking water — or 51,744 cans — to firefighters and relief workers trying to quell wildfires in Northern California. A truck loaded with water arrived last Friday in Sacramento, California. Markstein Beverage, the local Anheuser-Busch distributor, is working with the American Red Cross to distribute the water to firefighters and relief workers battling the Valley, Butte and Rough wildfires.
Less than one month after it announced the acquisition of four wholesalers in Colorado, Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced another set of distributor transactions in California. In a statement, Bob Tallett, A-B InBev’s vice president of business and wholesaler development, said the company has agreed to acquire a stake in the Oakland, Calif.-based Horizon Beverage Company. In a second transaction, A-B will repurchase its brand rights from M.E. Fox & Company Inc., a beer and non-alcoholic beverage distributor based in San Jose, Calif.
Deschutes Brewery has hired a new director of brewing operations who, among other things, will be tasked with assisting in the design, installation and launch of the brewery’s planned east coast facility. Karl Ockert, the industry executive who will fill the role effective August 3, discussed the company’s East Coast plans with Bend Bulletin’s resident beer business insider, Joseph Ditzler.
Earlier this week, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery persuaded a Rehoboth Beach land-use board to let the company tear down and reconstruct its brewpub in the city, overruling an earlier rejection of the brewery’s plans to do so, reports Delaware Online.
In an effort to support the growth of both its thriving and struggling brands, Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced it will invest more than $1.7 billion in its U.S. brewing, agriculture, packaging and distributing operations by 2018.
