GERVAIS, Ore. — July 3, 2025 — In the heart of Oregon’s hop country, a new farm is taking root, backed by seven generations of agricultural experience. Westwood Farms today announced the launch of its new public-facing brand. While the name is new, the family’s legacy in the Willamette Valley spans more than 175 years, grounded in sustainable farming, intentional partnerships, and care for the land.

The brand is a new venture for Liz and John Coleman, shaped by both long-standing relationships in agriculture and a renewed vision for the future. At the center is meliorism—a shared belief in working together to shape better outcomes through care and commitment.

“We’re blending time-honored methods with forward-thinking practices,” said Liz Coleman, co-founder of Westwood Farms. “This brand reflects who we are today: rooted in care for the land, passionate about our craft, and excited to grow something meaningful with our partners and our community.”

Westwood is already known for growing premium hops using regenerative farming methods, including no-till practices, integrated pest management, habitat restoration, and cover cropping. In its first season, Westwood produced over 400,000 pounds of hops. The farm’s hops are certified Salmon-Safe, grown using methods that minimize the impact on the region’s watershed. Westwood currently supplies Mosaic®, Citra®, and Talus® for Yakima Chief Hops, and grows Indie Hops Strata®. Additionally, Westwood’s experimental garden features a mix of public hop varieties—some widely recognized and others that are more distinctive and less commonly grown. In the future, the farm has its sights set on expanded crop diversity, from fruit and nuts to barley.

For co-founder John Coleman, the brand launch is a way to open the doors—to share the vision and invite others into what’s taking shape. “We’ve built a life and a business around the idea that good stewardship matters. Westwood exists to serve the land—to care for it in ways that are thoughtful, modern, and enduring. We work alongside those who share that purpose—our team, collaborators, and community. What we grow together is for the future, including the one we are actively shaping with the next generation of our family.”

The Westwood team includes experts across farming, marketing, operations and sustainability, both from within the family and beyond. That mix, says General Manager Sarah Pearson, is part of what makes the brand so dynamic. “We’re bringing together legacy wisdom with modern know-how, and that’s powerful. There’s real momentum here, and we’re just getting started. Our role is to connect great people, grow premium crops, and create a farm that people want to be part of.”

This launch signals Westwood’s transition from quiet growth to active storytelling. Its mission is to use farming as a force for renewal, weaving generations of wisdom with forward-thinking ingenuity to enrich the land and deepen the connections between people and nature. Westwood aims to demonstrate how sustainable farming can be, balancing quality, community, and conservation with every decision.

About Westwood Farms

Westwood Farms was founded by Liz and John Coleman, rooted in seven generations of agricultural tradition in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The farm grows premium crops using regenerative methods and is guided by the values of growth, connection, and balance. Grounded in the philosophy of meliorism—the belief that progress is possible through human effort—Westwood approaches farming with care, collaboration, and a long-term vision. At Westwood, tradition is a foundation, not a boundary, and every season is an opportunity to do better for the land and the people it supports.
