LaFayette, NY – At 1911 Established, we owe much of our success to bees. Their tireless work pollinating the 400,000 apple trees in our orchards makes it possible to grow the apples we craft into our award-winning, freshly pressed hard ciders. With this in mind, we are proud to introduce Honey Pear Hard Cider, a first for 1911 Established featuring pear alongside our traditional apple cider base.
To create this unique release, our cider makers expertly balanced the natural sweetness of apples and pears with the rich, robust, earthy character of buckwheat honey, resulting in a cider that is equally engaging as it is delicious.
Beak & Skiff Apple Orchard, home to 1911 Established, relies on bees each spring to pollinate its apple blossoms. Our Head Cider Maker, Yann Fay, embraces the age-old tradition of “telling the bees” about the orchard’s work.
“When the hives are at work in the orchard, you can walk right up to them without fear of being stung,” Fay explains. “The bees are so happy to be surrounded by the bounty of apple blossoms that they’re completely focused on their task. The buzzing is so loud inside the cloud of pollinators…it’s an incredible experience. Every spring, when the hives return to the hillsides around the cider house, I make a point to ‘tell the bees’ about all the cider they helped us create the previous year and thank them for their hard work.”
Honey Pear Hard Cider is a celebration of this special connection between the orchard and its buzzing helpers, a tribute to the vital role bees play in bringing our ciders to life.
