Los Angeles-based brewery, Highland Park Brewery and nonprofit Breaking Silence team up again to foster safer, more empathetic spaces in the beer industry
(Los Angeles, CA - October 10, 2024) – Continuing a partnership that began in 2022, Highland Park Brewery (HPB) and Breaking Silence, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing interpersonal violence, are launching their third collaboration beer. The latest creation, a West Coast Pilsner dry hopped with mosaic and peacharine, will be released on October 15 at a special fundraising launch event at the HPB taproom, inviting everyone to raise a glass and “Drink Kindly.”
The partnership between Highland Park Brewery and Breaking Silence has evolved over the past two years, growing into a shared commitment to create safer and more empathetic spaces within the beer industry. What began as a single collaboration to spark awareness around the impacts of interpersonal violence has developed into an ongoing relationship focused on fostering inclusivity, safety, and kindness. Through regular staff training and public engagement, HPB has made Breaking Silence’s empathy-centered approach a key part of their culture.
“Being a part of the HPB culture is truly special to us,” said Alli Meyerhardt, Executive Director of Breaking Silence. It has been through our continued partnership and shared commitment to creating safe spaces, that the hard work of empathy, clear communication and conflict resolution has begun to take shape throughout the brewery. Crafting great beer also means crafting safer, more connected spaces for everyone who visits HPB.”
An Impact Beyond Beer
The benefits of working with Breaking Silence extend far beyond safety training. By collaborating with the nonprofit, breweries and bars can cultivate stronger communities, build deeper connections with their customers, and create environments where people feel respected and valued. Breaking Silence offers hands-on training that equips staff with the tools to intervene when something seems off and fosters conversations that challenge harmful behaviors before they escalate.
“We’re super excited to be releasing Breaking Silence for a third year in a row. This has become a staff & customer favorite not only because the beer is great but because it brings awareness to an important cause that HPB cares deeply about. This year’s batch is loud, full of high tone citrus notes, & a crisp refreshing bitterness.” said James Sullivan, Marketing Director for Highland Park Brewery.
This limited-edition release is not only a celebration of craft beer but also a toast to the progress made in creating safer and more inclusive spaces in the industry.
