Lawson’s Finest Releases West Coast Style IPA, Freestyle

The Sunshine-makers at Lawson’s Finest Liquids announce the release of Freestyle IPA (6.8% ABV). Freestyle IPA is an ode to experimentation and the early days of Lawson’s Finest, when recipes were created on a whim at the original 7-barrel brewery in Warren, Vt.! 

This light, approachable IPA is brewed with pilsner malt that allows the unique character of Talus hops to shine alongside a soft, West Coast-style bitterness. For the first time, Freestyle IPA can be found in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans at the brewery’s destination taproom in Waitsfield; and at select retailers throughout Vermont, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.

“The beer recipe throws it back to the early days of Lawson’s Finest, before we opened our taproom and when all our brews were imagined on the original system inside our Crooked Cabin in Warren,” said Lawson’s Finest Founding Brewer Sean Lawson. “That time involved a lot of experimenting. I had a stockpile of ingredients and would freestyle the brew schedule depending on what I was feeling that day.” 

First brewed in Summer 2023 by Founding Brewer Sean Lawson and CEO Adeline Druart as a training exercise for the brewery’s first-hired CEO, Freestyle IPA was inspired by collaboration, the freedom to experiment, and ingredients popular with West Coast brewers. It was dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic and new school Talus hops that deliver a huge passionfruit nose and flavors of melon and citrus. A smooth bitterness takes your tastebuds back to the West Coast IPAs that started it all.  

“When I joined the Lawson’s Finest team last year, I asked Sean to teach me the fundamentals of brewing–the art, the science, the culture–before I officially took on the role of CEO. Sean and I met in the original Lawson’s Finest brewery and freestyled this recipe, brewing for the first time as a team.
