Lakeland, FL – Firmly rooted in tradition with an eye on the future, Saddle Creek Logistics Services celebrated its 50th year in business last week.

Founded on May 4, 1966, Saddle Creek has grown from a small, regional public warehouse company to one of the largest family-owned 3PLs in North America. The company’s 50 years of year-over-year revenue growth is testament to its commitment to service excellence.

On its golden anniversary, the company is announcing the appointment of Scott Thornton as chairman of the company. He succeeds Saddle Creek founder David Lyons who passed away last July.

A second-generation member of the Lyons/Thornton families, Thornton has worked for the company for more than 30 years in a variety of leadership positions. Most recently, he served as vice president of corporate development, responsible for strategic leasing decisions and building construction and for overseeing construction of millions of square feet of warehouse space.

“The Lyons/Thornton family is extremely proud of Saddle Creek’s ‘Whatever it Takes!’ culture and is committed to upholding the company’s strong reputation and high standards for service excellence,” Thornton said. “I am honored to guide Saddle Creek as we continue to grow our business and welcome the opportunity to find new ways to support our customers and grow together in the years ahead.”

Looking ahead, Saddle Creek also plans to tap its logistics services to help customers adapt to today’s omnichannel marketplace. Network optimization, system innovation, and automated fulfillment are just a few of the capabilities that the company is leveraging to help retailers, manufacturers and ecommerce companies get products where they need to be quickly, cost-effectively and seamlessly.

“For 50 years, Saddle Creek has provided exceptional logistics solutions that help our customers meet the needs of an ever-changing marketplace,” said Saddle Creek CEO Cliff Otto. “We are continually expanding our resources, refining our services, and evolving to meet the needs of our customers. Today, we’re well positioned to deliver the speed, service and scalability required for effective omnichannel distribution.”
