Marin Brewing Company Releases Pow Pow Gnar Gnar IPA

Larkspur, CA — On Monday, July 31, the Marin Brewing Company is releasing Pow Pow Gnar Gnar, its next great IPA. The beer will be on tap at the Brewco and available in kegs only.

Pow Pow Gnar Gnar is the first brew produced at Marin Brewing Company using a new hop product called Cryo Hops or LUPULN2 Powder. Cryo Hops are created using a freezing process to separate the lupulin glands, which contain most of the essential oils and acids, from the other vegetative material of hop cones. This process results in a concentrated powder of hop goodness to add to the brew.

A slang term used by winter sports lovers to describe fresh powder snow, Pow Pow Gnar Gnar provides the inspiration for the flavors and appearance of the beer. Extremely pale in color, using all low-kilned Pilsner, Pale Ale, and Wheat malts, this IPA is left unfiltered, creating a slightly hazy appearance. Eukanot, Simcoe, and Denali are the hop varieties used (Eukanot and Simcoe Cryo Powders and Simcoe and Denali pellets produced from whole hop cones). Each of the hops contains piney flavors and aroma notes combined with a variety of fruity characteristics, which are added late in the boil and directly to the fermenter, producing huge hop flavor and aroma with just enough bitterness to balance the brew.

While consuming this in the Bay Area’s summer heat, we expect you’ll be mentally transported to a cool, piney mountainside in knee deep fresh powder!
