Ancestry Brewing Releasing Specialty IPA for First Anniversary

TUALATIN, ORE. — Ancestry Brewing is excited to celebrate its one-year anniversary May 26 and 27 with a specialty IPA release and barbecue at its Tualatin brewing facility.

Founded in 2015 by Jerry and Jeremy Turner, the father-son team fulfilled a life-long dream of starting a family business. Jeremy, a long time homebrewer and chemistry graduate from Oregon State University, loved the idea of a brewpub as something they could build together.

The Turners hired Trevor Lauman as head brewer on July 15, 2015—well before the walls were up in the brewery. Trevor fit into the Turner’s brewing and business philosophy, Jeremy said.

“Trevor was a natural fit for what we wanted to build,” Jeremy said. “His creativity and new school influence helps round our portfolio. He’s a big part of the Ancestry family.”

Lauman, hired by Ancestry directly out of Oregon State University’s Fermentation Science program, has collaborated with Jeremy to create a diverse line of styles for the brewery, including flagship Best Coast IPA as well as traditional English and Irish Styles such as Irish Red, ESB, and Brown Porter.

After nearly a year of building out the warehouse space on Tualatin-Sherwood Highway, they opened their doors to locals, selling growlers while dialing in the 10-barrel JV Northwest brewhouse. On Memorial Day Weekend 2016, they opened to the pub to the public.

To celebrate the brewery’s first anniversary, the Ancestry Brewing family invites the public to a barbecue and Beer Release party May 27 located in the events center next door. The barbecue, which starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m., will feature a specialty Anniversary IPA brewed with hop resin and dry hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe and Ekuanot lupulin powders.

“It’s a pretty awesome mix of hops we got to play with,” Lauman said. “Huge citrus and pine on the palate with bright tropical and stone fruit aromas. It really shows what lupulin powder can do.”

The anniversary beer will be released in 500ml bottles in specialty retailers around the state after the weekend celebration. Bottle sales will be available at both pubs, Tualatin and Sellwood, starting Friday, May 26.

About Ancestry Brewing Company:
Father-and-son team Jerry and Jeremy Turner founded Ancestry Brewing in 2015 with one thing in mind—building a brewery the whole craft beer family can be proud of. With a focus on English and Irish styles but a love for experimentation, Ancestry brews classic styles made for the modern palate. With two brewpubs—one attached to the brewery in Tualatin and one in the heart of Sellwood—and a third on the way, Ancestry hopes to bring a family-friendly pub to neighborhoods around the city. From our family to yours, cheers.
