In honor of International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day, a group of female Karl Strauss Brewing Company team members participated in the Pink Boots Society’s annual Big Boots Brew Day event. The theme for this year’s brew was “Historical Ales” and the Karl Strauss team brewed a Pre-Prohibition-style Porter.
Back in February of 1989 Karl Strauss opened their historic downtown San Diego brewpub, which helped ignite the city’s vibrant craft beer scene. Since then the brewery has gone on to accomplish many things, most recently winning “Mid-Size Brewing Company of the Year” at the Great American Beer Festival last fall.
Tomorrow night, Karl Strauss Brewing Company celebrates 26 years of crafting the San Diego scene with their annual Changing of the Barrels event, hosted at their Tasting Room & Beer Garden in Pacific Beach. Every year, they invite fans to the brewery to witness a literal “changing” of the barrels. This year, Karl Strauss will debut their 26th Anniversary Ale which just spent a year aging in oak barrels. This will also be the only chance for people who proudly “fuss over their beer” to dissect the 27th Anniversary Ale before it gets put into barrels for the next twelve months.
