Taprooms and direct-to-consumer sales were hot topics during this year’s Craft Brewers Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Two seminars — “Building Your Brand Through the Tasting Room” and “Defense and Promotion of Tasting Rooms” — focused on the phenomenon that has agitated some retailers and wholesalers, but the topic bled into other conversations throughout the week.
PicoBrew, manufacturer of the world’s first line of automatic, craft beer brewing appliances, today announced new partnerships with local Seattle, WA craft beer breweries Fremont Brewing and Stoup Brewing, as well as Wicks Brewing of Riverside, CA, Freetail Brewing Co. in San Antonio, TX, and Still Hill Brewery from Rocky Hill, CT to create PicoPaks, adding to its more than 160 brewery partners from around the world.
Two San Antonio breweries have joined forces to release three special beers in celebration of San Antonio’s 300th anniversary. Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling and Freetail Brewing Company, two breweries that have been leaders in San Antonio’s craft beer movement, will each release a beer this year leading up to the 2018 Tricentennial celebration. They will then come together to brew a special collaboration beer to be released during the Tricentennial.
After Silver Eagle Distributors increased its keg deposit price by 20 percent, a number of Houston-area retailers, alleging they were never warned of the new pricing structure, banded together to boycott the prominent Texas wholesaler.
Just in time for patio-weather, Freetail Brewing Co. has made good on a promise made last spring and is rolling into Houston next week. Local wholesaler, Silver Eagle Distributors, will begin delivering the San Antonio-based brews to accounts across Houston and surrounding areas beginning Monday, March 30.
San Francisco’s 21st Amendment Brewery has announced plans to expand distribution to Chicago this spring, sales director Ted Whitney told Brewbound. “We’ll be sitting down to plan the launch in the next few weeks and we expect this to be an epic beer landing,” he said. The company is currently in the process of finalizing its wholesaler partnerships, though it would not specify what distributors it’s teaming up with.
San Antonio, TX — With recent changes to the state’s alcoholic beverage code, Freetail Brewing Co. is able to sell its beer for wholesale distribution for the first time, and it has partnered with the nation’s second largest beer distributor to do so.
With a slate of craft beer-related bills awaiting approval from the Texas legislature, a group of in-state brewers have expressed mixed feelings about the proposed measures.
A Texas legislator is aiming to boost support for small craft brewers in his state, which is dominated by Spoetzl Brewery, makers of Shiner Bock, and beer giants Anheuser-Busch InBev and MillerCoors.
