Tilray Brands continues to acquire pieces of Scottish craft beer maker BrewDog’s global business. The Canadian cannabis, beverage and wellness firm today announced it has closed a deal to purchase BrewDog’s brewery and taprooms in Australia.

Nearly 500 workers will lose their jobs with the closure of 38 BrewDog-owned pubs across the U.K. following Tilray’s acquisition of parts of the Scottish craft brewery, consultant firm AlixPartners shared in a press release.

Scottish craft brewery BrewDog is exploring a sale, Sky News reported over the weekend. The craft brewery’s board has reportedly hired restructuring firm AlixPartners to gauge interest from prospective buyers “with a quickfire deadline for indicative offers.”

Monster Brewing is selling off the equipment assets of Deep Ellum Brewing (Dallas, Texas) at auction, after shuttering the brewery’s taproom and shifting production of the brand’s beers to other facilities last year. Less has been more with BrewDog’s U.S. business over the last year and a half. On the latest episode of the Brewbound Podcast, BrewDog USA chief sales and marketing officer Eric Teodoro Franco explains how the business has “done fewer things better,” leading with a focus on its core brands, which helped the brand increase volume 26% last year.

BrewDog co-founder Martin Dickie has departed the Scottish brewery, several news outlets have reported.

BrewDog has shuttered its Cincinnati, Ohio-based bar nearly six years after the outpost opened, the company confirmed on Monday. The company cited increased operating expenses and declining on-premise traffic among the reasons for the closure, which was effective immediately.

BrewDog co-founder James Watt has stepped down as CEO of the Scottish craft brewery and will assume the new role of “captain” and co-founder, while also serving as a non-executive director on the company’s board of directors, according to multiple news reports.

The Office of Communications (Ofcom), the U.K.’s communications regulator, has dismissed a complaint from Brewdog and CEO James Watt against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), which claimed the BBC treated and portrayed Watt and his company “unjustly or unfairly” in a 2022 expose, BBC reported.
