Examining the Brewery Taproom Phenomenon with Nielsen

The emergence of direct-to-consumer sales has changed the way breweries across the country operate, and taprooms are no longer just a place where consumers sample beers or fill up growlers. Taprooms are large profit centers for many small U.S. beer businesses.

Brewbound, in partnership with Nielsen for the third year in a row, conducted a survey to explore the taproom phenomenon, and the impact it has on the broader category.

On Day Two of the 2018 Brewbound Live business conference, held in Santa Monica, California, on November 28, 2018, Caitlyn Battaglia and Matthew Crompton delivered the latest findings on brewery taprooms.

Battaglia is a manager within Nielsen's Beverage Alcohol Practice Area, where she supports Nielsen's initiatives and thought leadership across beer, wine, and spirits clients.

Crompton is a client director for Nielsen CGA and is responsible for the implementation of Nielsen CGA’s on-premise services in the U.S. Since joining CGA Strategy in January 2010, he has become an expert on all things on-premise.
