DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Vibes Beverages LLC, a functional, non-alcoholic beverage company, today announced the launch of Hot Tropic, a next-generation kava beverage engineered to address two of the category's most persistent technical challenges: rapid kavalactone degradation and inconsistent functional performance. Hot Tropic is co-manufactured with Burma Brewing (Fort Myers, Fla.) and joins Vibes Beverages' existing lineup of Electric Shores and Glow Getter.
Solving Kava's Degradation ProblemKava is one of the fastest-growing categories in functional beverage, but it has a well-known formulation challenge: kavalactones, the plant's active compounds, degrade quickly once they're in a ready-to-drink format, leading to inconsistent potency and short shelf lives across much of the category.
Hot Tropic addresses this with a proprietary emulsion technology that encapsulates kava's active compounds within a fiber matrix. By stabilizing the compound at the formulation level, this approach is designed to slow the degradation curve that has limited other kava RTDs, extending Hot Tropic's shelf life beyond a year — more than double what's typical for the category. The same encapsulation approach is also designed to improve absorption efficiency, so drinkers get more consistent, reliable effects can-to-can.
"Every kava brand on the shelf is fighting the same invisible problem: the product doesn't taste or perform the same in month six as it did on day one," said Jason Croxford, co-founder of Vibes Beverages. "We built Hot Tropic around the technology first, because if you can't solve stability, you can't build a trustworthy brand in this category."
A Generation Drinking DifferentlyHot Tropic is launching into a category with real momentum. Younger consumers are increasingly identifying as "sober curious," and functional, non-alcoholic beverages are one of the biggest beneficiaries of that shift:
- Adaptogen and functional beverages — the category kava falls into — represent a more than $1.6 billion market opportunity, up over 18% in the 52 weeks ending February 14, 2026, according to NIQ data.
- 29% of Gen Z and 26% of Millennials report consuming a functional wellness beverage, reaching for these drinks as a lower-stakes, lower-cost alternative to alcohol.
- Kava bars have expanded rapidly as social hubs for this cohort, increasingly doubling as spaces where younger consumers study, freelance, and work — not just unwind.
Vibes Beverages sees this as the core opportunity for Hot Tropic: a kava beverage built not just for evening relaxation, but for people who want to stay functional through a full day of schoolwork, entrepreneurship, or a work shift.
Built to "Tune In," Not Tune OutWhere much of the kava category is formulated purely for relaxation, Hot Tropic pairs kava with a functional stack designed for daytime use: green tea extract, alpha-GPC, and L-theanine. The combination is intended to work synergistically — offering calm, functional support without the foggy or forgetful feeling that can come with sedative-leaning kava drinks.
"We didn't want to build another drink that checks you out," said Matthew Abate Co-Founder. "We wanted something that helps you tune in — to your work, your studying, your day — instead of tuning out of it."
