SAN DIEGO, CA: San Diego’s Pure Project Brewing has teamed up with Australian innovators Frigid.Cloud to make its Vista production facility more efficient, more sustainable, and better for the planet.

Based in Adelaide, Frigid.Cloud partners with breweries and wineries worldwide to fine-tune refrigeration and fermentation systems—the most energy-intensive parts of beverage production. Using a proprietary mix of sensors, cloud-based software, and advanced analytics, the platform helps producers cut electricity use, reduce waste, automate processes, and gain deeper insights into fermentation.

The approach is already proving itself in the United States. Ambitious Ales in Long Beach was the first American brewery to adopt Frigid.Cloud. Shortly thereafter, they won a gold medal at the 2024 Great American Beer Festival for their hazy IPA Professional Human Being, showing that it’s possible to create award-winning beer while embracing sustainable brewing practices.

Pure Project followed suit in June 2024, installing Frigid.Cloud at its Vista brewhouse. Since then, the results have been eye-opening. The brewery’s largest draw on electricity, the glycol chiller, now runs with dramatically lower energy demands. Brewing processes can be scheduled automatically for off-peak hours, and systems like water heaters shut down completely when not in use.

"This technology is helping us brew smarter," said Winslow Sawyer, Co-founder and Brewer at Pure Project. "It gives us more control over our energy use while maintaining the high quality we demand in every beer we make."

According to a case study by Frigid.Cloud, Pure Project’s Vista facility was averaging 88 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per day during peak periods before installation. Now, peak-hour usage has dropped to just 30 kWh per day, thanks to the shift to off-peak operation. Altogether, Pure Project is saving between 20,000–24,000 kWh per year, a major step toward reducing the brewery’s carbon footprint.

"Breweries all over the world are realizing that sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated," said Jassa Amir-Lang, Frigid.Cloud's Co-founder and CEO. "Pure Project’s results show the kind of real-world impact smart technology can have."

To celebrate the partnership, Pure Project joined forces with Ambitious Ales and Frigid.Cloud to brew Cloud Pleaser, a murky IPA crafted with Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic Cryo, and Strata Abstrax hops. Bursting with mango, lime, and nectarine notes, the beer is as bold and bright as the vision behind it.

"When we met the Pure Project team back in February, we naturally bonded over how we both love working with Frigid," said Garrett Carroll, Head Brewer and Co-founder of Ambitious Ales. "Deciding to do this collaboration was a no-brainer, and we feel the end results show that sustainability and quality can go hand in hand. Our hope is that this collaboration inspires other brewers to do the same."

Cloud Pleaser will be released Thursday, September 4, 2025, on draft and in 4-packs to-go at all five Pure Project taprooms across San Diego County, as well as in select California retailers.
