Atwater's Bloktoberfest

Munich’s Octoberfest is known the world over as the world’s largest beer festival, complete with great German-produced brews, sumptuous Bavarian food and all kinds of fun.

Detroit’s Bloktoberfest is known all over Detroit as Atwater Brewery’s traditionally brewed German-style Marzen lager and the centerpiece of what has become one of the city’s most popular and best attended annual parties.

This year’s Bloktoberfest party, which is open to all, will be held Saturday, September 21 starting at 11:00 a.m., with live music beginning at 2:00 p.m. The celebration will be held both inside and outside the Atwater Brewery at 237 Jos Campau in Detroit’s historic warehouse district.

The event is also Atwater’s celebration of the launch of its seasonally produced German-style Bloktoberfest beer that promises “bready, nut-like characters with a clean, light sweetness brought to heel with a crisp hop finish."

“This is my favorite event of the year,” says Atwater owner Mark Rieth. “We have a half dozen bands, with great beer, delicious food, hard cider, spirits, dancing, games and a great local neighborhood feeling throughout the day and night. It’s a good time and great fun to be in one of Detroit’s most historic areas celebrating distinctly Detroit-made brews. You can’t help but love Bloktoberfest!”

This year’s Bloktoberfest event will feature live entertainment by:
o The Kielbasa Kings Polka Band
o The Whiskey Charmers (alt country)
o Smart Alecs (‘90s pop punk)
o Jacktown Hustlers (funk/hip hop)
o George Aneed (country/rock) and
o Seven Past Sunset (rock)

Atwater's new line of hard seltzers will make their first Bloktoberfest appearance. Atwater Seltzers are "clear, crisp and clean" spiked sparkling waters with three flavor profiles - Mango, Cherry and Lime. The seltzers are 5.0% ABV and just 100 calories.
In addition to great food, drink and live music, guests can participate in the Keg Race, the Stein Run, the Stein Hoist or just sit back and watch the football games. Corn hole, jenga and other games that pair well with Atwater brews will also be available. The event will be held rain or shine.

Tickets are $5 before 2 p.m. and either $10 or $35 after 2 p.m. The $35 ticket includes one full pour , a BLOKTOBERFEST glass, an Atwater T-shirt and a jumbo German pretzel! Tickets for Blocktoberfest are available online at https://bloktoberfest.brownpapertickets.com.

German style Marzens are traditionally brewed only from the end of September through April and are served to celebrate the harvest and the beginning of the brewing season. The first Octoberfest was held in Germany in 1810 as the wedding celebration of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Atwater’s Bloktoberfest is open to the multitudes as well as to any royalty who happen to wander by.

Atwater Brewery is located at 237 Jos. Campau, Detroit, 48207, in the historic Rivertown District. Please visit Atwater’s website and Atwater’s Facebook for additional information.
