Add San Diego’s Coronado Brewing to the growing list of established regional breweries freshening up their look.

In recent months, companies like Harpoon, Boulevard and Great Lakes, among others, have introduced redesigned packages aimed at standing out on the shelf and better communicating beer style characteristics to consumers.

Now Coronado, complete with a new “stay coastal” motto, is evolving both its consumer messaging and its look as the company enters its 20th year.

“The packaging design for the launch of our new cans offered a great opportunity to dive deeper into our coastal story,” said Heather Dueitt, the company’s marketing managers.

“The goal was to be more aligned across the brand’s portfolio as we move globally,” she added.

Coronado partnered with local branding agency MiresBall on the new designs, which are “cleaner” and help the brewery better embrace its “passion for family, friends and creating exceptional, approachable beer,” the company wrote in a statement.

The “stay coastal,” tagline is meant to convey the brewery’s history in Coronado and a “relaxed state of mind that resonates with both locals and fans worldwide.”

“Coronado Brewing has built a soulful legacy around their delicious beer, great food, and coastal lifestyle—all captured in the spirit of the mermaid,” Scott Mires, partner and creative director at MiresBall said in a press statement. “Our job was to refine and amplify that brand goodness, and to share their coastal calling with a new national and international craft audience.”

Coronado Brewing will phase in the new packaging next year, debuting cans in March and new seasonal bottles in May, it said.
