A traditional beer mile benefiting servicemen and women.

The Cherry Street Brewpub at Halcyon will hold its first ever brew mile to remember and honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. This is a traditional beer mile with a twist, allowing participants to bring a ruck and march.

The idea behind the event came about when Hunter R. Macauley, United States Marine Private 1st Class and employee at Cherry Street, wanted to find a way to honor and give back to those who served. “I’ve completed my service for my country, but I will never end my service to the men and women who serve today”, Macauley said.

The first overall male and female participant from each wave will be awarded a gift basket, and all ticket holders will receive a t-shirt and medal from the event. Tickets will include four beer pours for every lap and a finisher beer. Water and juice will be provided for children. A station will be set up at the event for attendees to write cards that will be sent out to service men and women. There are several sponsors for the event, including Southern Off-Road Specialists, Georgia Glamping Company, and Crown Royal. Crown Royal’s Purple Bag Project will be present at the event, and is encouraging participants to bring items that can be sent to active servicemen overseas, and here in the US.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Veteran’s Program that has been created by Camp Southern Ground to assist veterans on their new missions at home. The remainder of the proceeds will be donated to Forsyth County’s very own Corporal William Cook, who has spent the last three years serving our country in Japan. Like so many others, Cpl. Cook wishes he could return home to see his family. However, travelling while on leave must be paid out-of-pocket by servicemen. The proceeds from this event will provide servicemen like Cpl. Cook the respite they deserve.
