Odell Brewing’s Fernet Porter Returns in January

fernet-bottle-glassFort Collins, CO. – In January, Odell Brewing will release the second edition of its Fernet Aged Porter, a rich imperial porter aged in retired Leopold Bros. Fernet barrels.

“Fernet Aged Porter is thin yet dark, a deep ebony liquid beneath a sandy tan head composed of large, fragile bubbles that pop away rather quickly giving up beautiful aromatics as it does,” said Zachary Fowle in his review for the Phoenix New Times. “Chocolate is noticeable foremost, in multiple forms. Herbal mint, anise, and alcohol swirl in the background.”

Fernet is a dark minty liqueur made with herbs & spices and aged in oak barrels. Leopold Bros. has crafted its own unique recipe which includes lavender, honeysuckle, ginger root, bitter aloe, dandelion root, rose petals, chamomile, and peppermint.

“Our Fernet is the most bitter type of Amaro (Italian word for bitter) that is prepared by steeping various botanicals, with a large proportion of bitter roots, in spirit,” said distiller Todd Leopold, “so far as we are aware, it is the first of its kind produced in America since well before Prohibition.”

Fernet Aged Porter is offered in 750 ml, cork and cage finished bottles throughout the brewery’s eleven state distribution area. Odell Brewing will offer tap room guests a sneak peek of Fernet Aged Porter on December 26-28. Guests can enjoy samples of the brew and purchase bottles in advance of the market wide release.
