Row 34 hosts the launch of HUSK cider with the team from Salem's Far From The Tree.

Join Row 34 as they host the launch of the second iteration of HUSK cider, a project between Island Creek’s legendary Oyster Dude CJ Husk, bartender Jackson Cannon and the incredible team at Far From the Tree cider. The team is thrilled to offer this year’s batch in 16 oz. cans for $7 at Row 34 in Fort Point.

CJ oversees his family’s property, Nichol’s Tenny Farm in Hollis, New Hampshire, where he raises heritage pigs for many Boston area chefs. The farm has been in the family for generations. CJ’s grandfather loved apples and years ago, he planted 30 different varieties, one of which was Roxbury Russet, one of the oldest heirloom variety of apples and one of the best for cider making.

This new batch of HUSK is different from 2016 - the apple selections consists of about about 50% Roxbury Russets with Baldwin, Northern Spy and Esopus Spitzenburg. The team starts the fermentation process with a natural ferment to start, adding champagne yeast halfway through to give it a clean finish. The cider received a touch of French oak for two weeks, and was then moved into a stainless steel variable tank for aging. Right before canning a small amount of maple syrup was added for a hint of sweetness and to balance out the texture of the cider. One other difference is that this year’s HUSK is totally unfiltered.
