Brewbound is pleased to announce its first speaker for the upcoming Winter Brewbound Session, being held in San Diego on Thursday Dec. 4: Boulevard Brewing founder, John McDonald.
As merger and acquisition activity continues to heat up in the craft sector, an increasing number of brewery founders are assessing their succession plans and liquidity options. That’s why Brewbound is so excited to have McDonald join our full-day business conference and share his personal entrepreneurial expertise, having recently sold Boulevard to Belgium-based Duvel Moortgat last October.
In a moderated discussion with Brewbound editor Chris Furnari, McDonald will reflect on last year’s blockbuster acquisition and the characteristics that made the deal work. McDonald will reflect on how the talks with Duvel developed, the challenges he faced while negotiating the sale of his company and the considerations that were made when speaking with a raft of interested buyers.
As part of the conversation, McDonald will also explain the integration process with Duvel and how it has benefited both companies from operational and execution standpoints. During the talk McDonald will also discuss the various types of liquidity options available to craft brewers, and the pros and cons of each route.
Attendees will also have multiple opportunities to engage McDonald, and other featured presenters, both during the moderated portions of the program and also during structured networking and sampling breaks.
The Brewbound Session, which will be held at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa, is a full-day conference for beer industry professionals. The event focuses on the strategic marketing, brand building and business development issues that most directly impact craft brewers. A variety of distribution, retail, investment and branding discussions are offered.
