We're looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Supervisor to run day-to-day operations at our San Jose production facility, where strains developed in our lab become commercial products.

You'll own the production schedule, lead a team of 5-10 operators across cellar and packaging, and coordinate daily with QA/QC and Maintenance to keep aseptic processes tight and batches on time. You'll spend time on the production floor, especially during peak manufacturing, while having the latitude to improve systems, workflows, and operational performance as we continue to scale.

What you'll do

  • Own daily production scheduling and execution across cellar and packaging
  • Supervise, train, and develop a team of operators – set clear expectations, give regular feedback, and handle performance conversations directly and respectfully
  • Maintain aseptic process control and keep batch documentation accurate and audit-ready
  • Partner daily with QA/QC and Maintenance to resolve deviations and minimize downtime
  • Lead safety on the floor: training, coaching, and follow-through on incidents and near-misses
  • Find and drive improvements to throughput, yield, quality, and workflow
  • Contribute to the buildout of our operational procedures and quality programs as we scale

What we're looking for

  • ~5 years of hands-on manufacturing experience in brewery, beverage, food, or biotech production, or similar
  • Experience leading production teams, either as a supervisor or a working lead
  • Strong mechanical and process aptitude, including comfort troubleshooting production equipment.
  • Familiarity with aseptic processing or biological systems
  • The ability to hold priorities straight when several of them change at once
  • Able to lift up to 55 lbs repeatedly and work on your feet in a wet production environment

Nice to have

  • Experience with a quality or food safety system (GMP, HACCP, PCQI, SQF, ISO)
  • ERP/MRP or inventory management systems – a plus if you've been through an implementation
  • Root Cause Analysis, CAPA, or other structured problem-solving
  • Lean, 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma
  • Experience supporting safety programs, incident investigations, or risk reduction work

Details

Compensation: $70,000-$95,000 per year, depending on experience. Significant supervisory experience and/or experience implementing quality systems, ERP/MRP platforms, or continuous improvement programs (beyond just working within them) places candidates at the top of the range.

Benefits: Medical and dental insurance · 401(k) with employer match after one year · Commuter benefits · Flexible PTO

About Berkeley Yeast

We believe modern science should be used to make better beverages through processes that are more consistent, efficient, and sustainable. Our engineered strains give commercial brewers new control over flavor, protection against increasingly vulnerable crops, better shelf stability, and improved production efficiency. Our San Jose facility is where that science becomes product at commercial scale.

It is the policy of Berkeley Yeast to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and employment applicants.
