The Shift Brewer is responsible for executing day-to-day brewing and cellar operations according to established procedures, maintaining product quality and consistency, and supporting a safe, efficient production environment. This is a hands-on production role reporting to the Head Brewer & Brewmaster.


Core Responsibilities


  • Execute brewhouse operations including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling, whirlpooling, knockout, and CIP per SOPs
  • Perform cellar operations such as:
  • Yeast handling and harvesting
  • Dry hopping
  • Tank CIP and sanitation
  • Transfers, carbonations, and tank turns
  • Monitor fermentation activity and record data (gravity, pH, temperature, DO, carbonation, etc.)
  • Follow all quality control procedures and accurately complete production logs and batch records
  • Execute packaging support as needed (kegging, canning prep, carbonation checks)
  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and organization of brewhouse, cellar, and packaging areas
  • Identify and promptly communicate quality, safety, or equipment issues to the Head Brewer or Production Manager
  • Adhere to all safety protocols including confined space, chemical handling, PPE, and lockout/tagout
  • Assist with raw material handling, receiving, and inventory organization
  • Support pilot batches, R&D brews, and collaboration beers as assigned
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment at all times


Quality Assurance


  • Execute SOPs consistently to ensure product quality, shelf stability, and brand standards
  • Participate in sensory evaluation and beer quality discussions when requested
  • Properly identify and isolate any non-conforming product


Skills & Qualifications


  • 1–3+ years of professional brewing or cellar experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of brewhouse and cellar operations
  • Comfortable following detailed SOPs and production schedules
  • Ability to work independently during assigned shifts
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with basic troubleshooting
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs, work on ladders, and stand for extended periods
  • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, or rotating shifts as needed (2nd shift)


Additional Notes


  • Brewing science or related education preferred (but not required)
  • Familiarity with QA/QC practices (DO meters, Zahm, lab basics)
  • Forklift or pallet jack experience or ability to obtain a forklift certification
  • Experience in both brewing and cellar operations
