Although there are currently many investors and speculators who have trained their sights on the craft brewing industry, there have been relatively few completed transactions. That’s why Brewbound is delighted to announce that the president of Long Trail Brewing, Daniel W. Fulham, will be participating in a discussion on the craft beer investment space during the Brewbound Session on May 2 in Boston.

Aside from his operational role with the brewery, Mr. Fulham is an investor with Fulham & Co., the family investment office that purchased Vermont-based Long Trail in 2003. During that time, Fulham & Co., has also conducted two other “tuck-in” investments with Vermont breweries, adding Otter Creek Brewing Co. and Shed Brewing to the Long Trail portfolio.

Mr. Fulham brings the perspective of the long-term investor to the discussion – a perspective that comes from having a family office that was largely built on experience within the food and beverage industry. But he understands the competing financial forces that are at work in the craft space and is prepared to evaluate the reasons why brewers might engage in deals and is prepared to discuss the kinds of events that might cause different kinds of sales. His story of how his firm conducted its purchase of Long Trail and the lessons learned from remaining in an operating role within the brewery for several years demonstrates a strong grounding in the kinds of decisions and challenges faced by brewers and puts him in a unique position to explain the best ways to capitalize – or not – on the financial climate surrounding the business.
