Widmer Brothers Releases Russell Street IPA in Six Packs

PORTLAND, Ore. — Widmer Brothers Brewing is launching a new IPA in six packs today: Russell Street IPA. This modern West Coast IPA was first brewed in 2015 exclusively for the pub, and has been a fan favorite ever since.

Russell Street IPA is a balanced West Coast IPA featuring Mosaic, Citra and Azacca hops. The robust hop bill results in an intense aroma and flavor, highlighted by delicious citrus and tropical notes. Russell Street IPA has been the top-selling beer at the Widmer Brothers Pub for years, with fans commenting on its pleasant hoppiness and malt balance.

The launch is the first in Widmer Brothers’ all-new “Portland Pub Series,” which features beers that have originated in the brewery’s 10-barrel pilot brewery, where the innovation brewing team experiments and collaborates to create new beers, perfect recipes, and keep old favorites fresh. Each beer in the ongoing series started as a one-off small batch beer and became popular at the pub.

The beer is named for the street that Widmer Brothers calls home, and the entire series has a fresh new look, with packaging showcasing the beauty of Portland through colorful illustrations.

“Russell Street IPA is one of our beers that has always been in rotation at our 10-barrel brewhouse and we literally can not brew it fast enough,” said Tom Bleigh, innovation brewmaster for Widmer Brothers Brewing. “Our brewing team has known this beer as a winner for a long time, and I am glad to see it finally move into 12-ounce bottles. I can’t wait to see it in stores, and on tap soon at some of Portland’s great drinking establishments.”

Russell Street Kick-Off Pub Crawls:

Russell Street IPA will be celebrated at a kickoff Portland pub crawl this Friday along Mississippi St., where folks can talk with the innovation brewing team, and enjoy Russell Street IPA.

About Widmer Brothers Brewing

Widmer Brothers Brewing was founded in 1984 in Portland, Ore. Brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer, with help from their dad, Ray, helped lead the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement when they began brewing unique interpretations of traditional German beer styles. In 1986, Widmer Brothers Brewing introduced the original American-style Hefeweizen, which elevated the brewery to national acclaim. Since then, Hefe has grown to become Oregon’s favorite craft beer and the brewery has continued to push the boundaries, developing beers with an unapologetic, uncompromised commitment to innovation.

The brewery currently brews a variety of award-winning beers including Hefe, Upheaval IPA, Drop Top Amber Ale, a full seasonal lineup, and the new Portland Pub Series, which includes Russell Street IPA, PDX Pils, and Steel Bridge Porter.
